چکیده

The Canto hypertext data model is characterized by a hierarchical schema mechanism that allows a predetermined, open-ended schema to be embedded in the hyperdocument. Canto uses two types of nodes: concept nodes, which provide organizational structure, and information nodes, which contain text and other data. The operations provided by the Canto Data Model are defined formally using the Z specification language. The Canto Schema Language gives the hypertext designer access to these operations. We show that the operations defined in Canto preserve properties of accessibility and data integrity. We evaluated Canto with a controlled experiment involving human users. These tests showed that a hypertext system developed with Canto was easier to use than an otherwise similar system that did not employ a schema mechanism.Severalapplications have been developedusing Canto. One such application, which we describe in some detail, involves the use of Canto to teach students the skill of program reading.

Canto: an online tool for community literature curation

MOTIVATION Detailed curation of published molecular data is essential for any model organism database. Community curation enables researchers to contribute data from their papers directly to databases, supplementing the activity of professional curators and improving coverage of a growing body of literature. We have developed Canto, a web-based tool that provides an intuitive curation interface...

GHMI: A General Hypertext Data Model Supporting Integration of Hypertext and Information Systems

We present a general hypertext data model supporting the integration (GHMI) of hypertext and information systems. The information systems benefit from hypertext functionality while preserving their computation capabilities. Although systems supporting integration of hypertext and display-oriented information systems do exist, no model or system effectively supports integrating hypertext and com...

Using a Reference Model for Information System Compatibility: An Experience

Because of the rapid pace of advances in the eld of hypertext, data interchange systems are becoming important for the longevity of information systems based on hypertext or including hypertext features. Reference models, identifying those traits that are common to all systems of a certain kind, allow us to create an intermediate data format useful for data interchange. The Dexter Hypertext Ref...

A Graphical Query Language for Hypertext Database Systems

This paper presents a semantic data model for the implementation of hypertext database systems. The data model provides a framework for improving the functionality of hypertext systems. An important part of the model is its user interface, called the 11 informatics calculus". Based upon the notion of a functional query language, this is a graphical query language with powerful facilities for ex...

Extremal (in)dependence of a Maximum Autoregressive Process

Maximum autoregressive processes like MARMA (Davis and Resnick, [5] 1989) or power MARMA (Ferreira and Canto e Castro, [12] 2008) have singular joint distributions, an unrealistic feature in most applications. To overcome this pitfall, absolute continuous versions were presented in Alpuim and Athayde [2] (1990) and Ferreira and Canto e Castro [14] (2010b), respectively. We consider an extended ...
